How To Declutter Your Life

Raise your hand if you have ever flicked through your wardrobe and spent time convincing yourself that you definitely need every item in it. Lets not forget that dress that has never fitted and that jacket that still has the label on 1 year later. We’re humans, it’s inevitable but it has to stop - in my wardrobe at least.

I didn’t rush out to buy The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up, I didn’t need it. I decided all I needed was an Ebay account, discipline and a realistic outlook on things. With this story in mind, I thought I’d share with you my top 5 things to declutter this summer that will definitely make you feel better.

  • Anything that is out of season, put it in a bag or a box and store away until that season.
  • Switch out your summer and winter clothes. I keep all of my bikinis and very summery items in a suitcase under my bed. When the time comes around, I switch them for my winter jumpers.
  • If an item doesn’t fit you, consider whether you are going to fit into it in the near future. If not, use sites like Ebay and Depop to resell it, give to a friend or toss it away. Make room for that next Asos order!
  • Condense your purse down. After watching Lydia Elise Millen’s video I knew a cardholder was the perfect solution to my cluttered purse problem. No more loose change, no more receipts and it fits into any sized bag.
  • Don't fill your bag with rubbish - Empty chewing gum packets and old receipts I'm looking at you.
  • Pack strategically. Only take with you the make-up you are wearing on the day, pick up travel sized lip balms and also think about using a Travelo instead of a full sized perfume bottle.
Make Up
  • Separate your make up into most used, use occasionally and never use. If there's any in the never use category, you know where to put it.
  • Products that you've tested and are sure you don't like, gift them to your friends
  • Any liquids that are out of date, throw them away. They're a breeding ground for bacteria.
Home in General
  • Clear out your fridge each week and your cupboards once a month. Less stress when it comes to putting away your food shop.
  • Don't use any space as a 'shit drawer'/'shit cupboard', you know, the one with the odd tealights and dead batteries. Everything should have it's own place and risking everything toppling out when you open it, stress level 100.
  • With regards to bills, create a spreadsheet or list and itemize everything you have to pay out at the end of the month along with your income. Having it all in front of you will help you plan what to do.
  • Create to-do lists on your phone/laptop/paper. Less forgetting, more organizing.
  • On the same topic, use a calendar or diary to mark down special days or events you have coming up.

So there you have it, these are just some of the things I do to help me declutter my head, home and life in general. What are your tips and tricks?
